Last Updated on December 14, 2020

Nowadays as technology hovers in every corner of our lifestyles, we also focus to engage in their core significance to us. I could remember when i had a Sony java phone in early 2008, mobile phones were too sophisticated to be delt with. I used to buy a mobile phone DIY series from Engineer Aliogo. He would write on the basics about phones then ; How to check phone’s IMEI, Checking the version of your phones, determining network provider’s APN then configuring it for browsing etc. If you could do these those days, you are a celebrity cum Geek.

Now, from inception of Android in 2003 till date, there has been a huge outburst in customers demand for its smartphones. Top companies; Sansung, HTC, Motorola, Sony, LG were the major producers. I could point out that MediaTek boosted the Production rates of Android OS on mobile phones. I always dreamt of buying a touchscreen phone but as a student then, my budget couldn’t extend my hands on any. Samsung, HTC, LG were the notch better but expensive. Tecno was the miracle to my dream from using an Android touchscreen phone at a little budget. I have a strong feeling that it was same with you reading this.

MediaTek (MTK) is a company that provides system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for wireless communications. In July 2013, MediaTek became the first system-on-chip (SoC) supplier to announce the development of an octa-core mobile device SoC capable of processing tasks with eight CPU scores concurrently. MTK Smartphones are really great following their recent developments on processors, latest chipset MEDIATEK HELIO X 20 featuring uncompromised multimedia performance and optimized battery for high-end features. Their Antutu Benchmark scores are outstounding too compared to its competitors, Qualcomm, HiSilicon, Marvel, Intel…Some MediaTek powered phones are : Tecno, Infinix, iTel, Lenovo, Huawei, Alcatel, Xaiomi, Lemon, Gionee, Blu etc. MTK Chipsets are usually shipped with chipset codes. These chipset codes have differences in hardware requirements like Processor, Network type, Screen resolution etc. Some of them are : MT6589, MT8125, MT6572, MT6582, MT6592, MT6577, MT6595 etc.

Good Features of MediaTek Smartphones

It reduces Budget

One of the major influence of MediaTek is the cheapness of their products. Their cheapness is not because they value less or not worthy but because of the materials used in designing the chipsets. Lets consider Samsung Galaxy S5 and Infinix Hot 2.

Samsung Galaxy S5
Size : 5.1″
Chipset : Qualcomm Snapdragon
CPU : Quad-core
OS : KitKat 4.4
RAM : 2GB
Price : N87,7000

Infinix Hot 2
Size : 5.0″
Chipset : MediaTek MT6582
CPU : Quad-core
OS : Lollipop 5.1
RAM : 2GB
Price : From N17,900

Dual SIM

Some people would prefer a dual sim phone to a single sim. It is even better for business men having more than one telephone lines instead of carrying phones as if it is a grenade.

Easier to root

You can easily obtain root access in MTK phones. Here, you need not to unlock bootloader or install custom recovery before it could get rooted.

Stock Google OS except devices on MIUI

With Mediatek phones, you could feel the original Android OS release. Normally, they are shipped to the companies that uses MediaTek chipsets on their phones. Little or no customizations will be altered unlike Samsung TouchWiz UI or devices running MIUI ROMs (Xaiomi, Huwawei etc).

Insufficient features of MediaTek Smartphones

Poor Camera

Yes! MTK phones are somewhat poor when it comes to camera output. Just like in Infinix Hot 2, with an amazing 8MP, will seem to be clearer when taking in an open place but if you can zoom the image, you will notice that the pixels blur as you extend the display. They will not guarantee you a high resolution images. You could imagine the camera output in a darker environment.

Stock OS

The Operating System ,OS, are usally stock. There are less chances of modification. Unlike Snapdragon where an OS can be customized to match other devices with similar kernel. It is commonly called custom ROM.

Usually Overheats when exposed to high usage on data

Most times, MTK phones heats when you are on data. you might notice the hotness whenever you place the back case on your skin. This is not too good because it reduces battery life.
