MTN Nigeria has recently but stealthfully updated its Monthly data plans and Weekly data plans respectively. In one of our earlier MTN data plan articles, we showed best MTN data plans before this recent update.
This recent MTN data plan update are not too noticeable when viewed using a phone or Tablet. The updates are only available on its Monthly data plans as well as it Weekly data plans.
In order to notice this effect, one should use a modem using MTN mobile data general USSD codes, *131#. One cannot see the notice while using a direct subscription codes like *131*106# (MTN Monthly data subscription code) or that of the weekly…
Here’s the new MTN Data Plans Update
New MTN Monthly data Plan
Instead of getting 1.5GB Monthly data cap at ₦1000, you now get 1GB monthly data cap to be used from 8am – 12am and 500MB to be used from 1am – 7am.
Also, 2.5GB Monthly data cap at ₦2000, you now get 1.5GB monthly data cap to be used from 8am – 12am and 1GB to be used from 1am – 7am.
New MTN Weekly data Plan
Instead of getting 1GB weekly data cap at ₦500 for MTN Pulse subscribers, you now get 750MB weekly data cap to be used from 8am – 12am and 250MB to be used from 1am – 7am.

Also 750MB weekly data cap at ₦500 for other prepared customers, you now get 500MB weekly data cap to be used from 8am – 12am and 250MB to be used from 1am – 7am.
Which of these MTN Data Plans is still the best?
Nobody will literally stay awake from 1am till 5am just to make sure that they exhaust their remaining 250MB, instead one could actually spend 1 hour (12am – 1am) on 500MB MTN Night data plan at ₦50 which is twice the take from 1am – 7am.
Choosing between MTN Monthly data plans Vs MTN Weekly data plans
Lets assume that everybody is on MTN Pulse…
MTN Monthly data plans
1GB of data from 8am – 12am and 250MB from 1am – 7am at ₦1000 for 30 days. One may realize that 1GB might not be enough for 7 days for those that social media addicts, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter – They consume a lot of data.
One may decide to top up at least once on the same month. At the end of the day, one may spend ₦2000 or more on 30 days for a 2GB data bundle which is almost the same to the 2.5GB bundle plan.
MTN Weekly data plans
750MB of data from 8am – 12am and 250MB from 1am – 7am at ₦500 for 7 days. Obviously, 7 days is not enough for a normal Internet user. One may decide to extend it to another round at least one or two times of top up.
Lets say; at the end of the month, one may spend ₦2000 (which is four times subscriptions) or less on 750MB x 4 times = 3GB of data for 30 days.
Now, on the question of either choosing MTN monthly or Weekly data plans, We might leave the consideration for you to decide.
